It’s probably happened to you before. You had an awesome coupon that you could not wait to use. Maybe you stashed it away, waiting to combine it with a good sale or store promotion. But, when you decided to use it, you discovered that it had passed the expiration date. Don’t worry - this happens to most of us!
Here are five ways to avoid expired coupons
1. Keep your coupons in a central location
Most of the time, coupons are not redeemed before their expiration since they are misplaced or forgotten. Instead of scattering your coupons, stash them all together in one organizer or a central location. By doing so, you are more likely to find particular coupons and actually use them.
2. Use an organizing method that works for you
Organize your coupons in a method that works for you. One way to organize your coupons is by clipping all your coupons and storing them in a binder until you plan out your shopping trips. You need to figure out which organizational method works for you. This can help you better manage your coupons and redeem valuable discounts.
3. Sort your coupons by the expiration date
Another great way to use your coupons before they expire is to keep those with the nearest expiration date upfront. Based on your organizing method, you will want to arrange your coupons, by manufacturer or category of product, by the expiration date.
4. Try an expiry tracking app
If you are tech-savvy, consider using an expiry tracking app. These apps can help you scan your paper coupons and track the expiration dates of your coupons. Some apps might even notify you of upcoming expiration dates.
5. Donate your expired coupons to overseas military bases.
If your coupons do end up expiring, there’s still good news. You can still donate them to military families. Most military base commissaries in the US and overseas accept coupons up to 6 months past their expiration date. So instead of throwing them away, donate them to our dedicated troops who defend the country and their families who support them.
